1. The European Union must support Ukraine materially and financially until a lasting peace is achieved.
The need for support does not end with peace — European states and companies must take part in rebuilding Ukraine.
JEF Finland, UN Youth of Finland and the Pohjola-Norden Youth Association demand:
- Russia’s frozen assets must be used to support Ukraine.
- The Nordic Council should strengthen Nordic cooperation with Ukraine and support the region’s reconstruction
2. The European Union and its member states must actively promote peace negotiations that do not result in significant territorial losses for Ukraine.
Every year of war is more costly than the last — for Ukrainians, for society, and for the environment.
JEF Finland, UN Youth of Finland and the Pohjola-Norden Youth Association demand:
- EU member states must maintain a unified stance on Russia.
- Peace negotiations must not be conducted without Ukraine’s participation. The peace agreement must respect Ukraine’s self-determination, independence and territorial integrity in accordance with international law and the UN Charter.
3. Economic and personal sanctions against Russia and its allies must be continued and, where necessary, tightened.
Europe must not trade with a state that violates international agreements and causes human suffering through its actions.
JEF Finland, UN Youth of Finland and the Pohjola-Norden Youth Association demand:
- The implementation of sanctions must be harmonised among member states. No exemptions for the shadow fleet or sanctions-busting truck traffic.
- The UN must coordinate and promote the implementation of unified international economic sanctions.
- The participation and rights of a country waging a war of aggression in violation of international law must be restricted in the UN Security Council and other bodies.
4. Ukraine’s integration with the West must be accelerated.
The seven-point list of requirements for the country’s direction of development will not progress without continuous support from the Union and its member states.
JEF Finland, UN Youth of Finland and the Pohjola-Norden Youth Association demand:
- Membership criteria must not be relaxed; instead, a separate tailored cooperation agreement should be drawn up for Ukraine if necessary.
- The accession processes of candidate countries Georgia and Moldova must be supported and advanced to secure Eastern Europe.
5. The time for reconstruction is now!
In addition to war-torn land, reconstruction requires rebuilding and funding civil society, participation and equality work.
JEF Finland, UN Youth of Finland and the Pohjola-Norden Youth Association demand:
- The UN and international organisations must fund and promote the participation of Ukrainian youth in work under the Youth, Peace and Security (2250) resolution.
- Ukraine’s government must be supported in creating consultation structures that take young people’s views into account.
- Reconstruction must promote equality and be inclusive, taking into account the special needs of young people, gender equality and vulnerable groups.
