JEF Finland’s New Executive Board Has Been Elected!

JEF Finland’s statutory General Assembly convened in Jyväskylä on 1-2 December. Almost a hundred young people interested in European affairs had gathered at the General Assembly to discuss current European political questions and the organisation’s internal practices, and to elect the organisation’s leadership for 2019.

Iiris Asunmaa from Jyväskylä was elected President for 2019. Gurmann Saini from Vantaa and Iida Laurila from Turku were elected Vice Presidents. Hanna Kivimäki, Iida Yliannala, Silva Mertsola and Risto Rajala from Helsinki, Emilia Peikola from Jyväskylä, Tuomas Karvonen from Tampere, Rico Martikainen from Lappeenranta and Minna Kuittinen from Turku were elected to the Executive Board.

“We’ve got an absolutely amazing group of people from all over Finland. I can’t wait for us to get to work together on a super year for EU politics!” says the delighted 2019 President Iiris Asunmaa.

The record-large General Assembly also approved JEF Finland’s first-ever equality programme in the organisation’s history, and updated the regional associations’ model rules and the political programme. The General Assembly also approved the action plan and budget for 2019. Alongside the meetings, delegates attended a reception hosted by the City of Jyväskylä on Saturday evening.

“Next year we’re aiming for at least a hundred participants at the General Assembly – with this group, that’s certainly achievable”, concludes 2019 President Asunmaa.
