Nordic-Baltic JEF founded as a new international cooperation organisation

Together with its sister organisations from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Latvia, and Estonia, JEF Finland founded the Nordic-Baltic JEF (Young Europeans in the Nordics and Baltics) on Saturday, 29 October 2022, in Reykjavík, Iceland.

“The founding of the Nordic-Baltic JEF is the result of long-term work. I want to thank our sister organisations and everyone who has been involved in the preparations over the years for making this project a success. Through this new cooperation organisation, we can expand our international activities, secure new funding opportunities, and coordinate matters relating to our umbrella organisation, JEF Europe”, says JEF Finland’s President Risto Rajala

Sami Matikainen, responsible for JEF Finland’s international affairs, was elected as the first President of the Nordic-Baltic JEF at the founding meeting. Nea-Maria Törmänen was elected as his deputy. Each member organisation was entitled to appoint one regular member and one deputy member to the board of the joint organisation.

“It is a great honour to serve as the first President of the Nordic-Baltic JEF. The Nordic and Baltic countries are JEF Finland’s closest reference group within JEF Europe, which is why it was important to establish permanent structures for cooperation. Although the organisation has now been founded, the work doesn’t end here. The coming year will be used to stabilise our operations, explore funding opportunities, and develop cooperation – especially to support the activities of our smallest member organisations”, comments Sami Matikainen, President of the Nordic-Baltic JEF

The full board elected at the founding meeting of the Nordic-Baltic JEF on 29 October 2022:

Finland: Sami Matikainen (President), deputy Nea-Maria Törmänen
Norway: Benedikte Serine Svendsen (Vice President), deputy Kristine Meek Stokke
Denmark: Patrick Løvenskjold von Wildenradt (Treasurer), deputy Klara Herzl Christiansen
Estonia: Muhammad Abdullah Siddiqui, deputy Benedetta Veneruso
