Finnish YouTuber, singer and actor Tuure Boelius has been named Young European of the Year 2018. The recognition, awarded by JEF Finland, is given to a person who portrays a positive image of European identity and works significantly to promote international tolerance.
– Tuure Boelius has, by his own example, encouraged young people to push their own boundaries and to proudly walk their own path. Boelius encourages young people to become more international and develop their language skills, for example through various language trips. Boelius has shown all of us what courage and youth can mean at their best, comments JEF Finland President Tuomas Tikkanen.
Tuure Boelius was pleasantly surprised to hear about the recognition and the trust placed in him by young people.
– The award feels incredibly good. I could think of many other people off the top of my head who would have deserved this honour. I’m really grateful for the recognition and touched that I’ve managed, through my own work, to advance an important cause, Tuure Boelius says, delighted at the honour of representing the young European generation.
Having lived his whole life in an EU Finland, being European is a natural part of Boelius’s identity. For Boelius himself, being European means, above all, freedom, security, and things simply working.
– It’s not something to be taken for granted, being born into such good circumstances and being able to be exactly who you are. That makes me happy, Boelius says.
Young European of the Year was chosen for the 14th time. The choice was announced on 9 May 2018 at JEF Finland’s Europe Day event at Helsinki’s Narinkkatori square.
JEF Finland congratulates Boelius once again and wishes him continued success in his career!
