Nea-Bettina Baarman Running for President of JEF Finland

JEF Finland’s extraordinary General Assembly will be held on 12 August starting at 18:00 in Helsinki. At the General Assembly, a new President for the organisation will be elected for 2024. So far, one person has put themselves forward as a candidate. Below you will find the candidate’s introduction.

“Eight years of experience — endless enthusiasm.”

Hi everyone, fellow JEFers! I’m Nea-Bettina Baarman, JEF Finland’s current Political Vice President and a candidate for President. I’m running for President of JEF Finland because JEF Finland needs an enthusiastic, forward-thinking and capable person who is skilled at organisational and administrative development as well as political advocacy work. My own journey in the organisation began in 2016 at Tähdistö, after which I led our local branch for a couple of years, as well as serving on the Executive Board. For a couple of years I was also Editor-in-Chief of Tähdistö. JEF Finland has become an organisation where I have learned a great deal about politics and organisational work, and where I have formed important friendships that I hope will last a lifetime. It is this experience of community that I want to pass on to everyone as President.

I have seen many different stages, both in the development of the EU and in the history of our beloved organisation. But now we find ourselves facing something new, as we have to roll up our sleeves and work to secure JEF Finland’s future and funding. Success requires vision, ambition and experience. Beyond funding, JEF Finland deserves reforms that make us a more open, inclusive and safer community, where every young person has room to develop and succeed. I see JEF Finland as an organisation that calls for a responsible, humane and sustainable Union, both in Finland and on the international stage. We should be Finland’s best-known youth organisation specialising in EU and international affairs!

In autumn 2023, I published a pamphlet on the future of JEF Finland, which can be found here (https://drive.google.com/file/d/180PzsHlzx340KPUbkDDS69pymxeDUbpW/view?usp=sharing). There you’ll find more of my thoughts on developing the organisation. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to reach out to me on Instagram (@neabaarman) or Telegram (@on_nea)! See you at the General Assembly!

“Eight years of experience – endless enthusiasm.”

Hello all JEFers! I’m Nea-Bettina Baarman, current political vice-president of the JEF Finland and president candidate. I’m running for President of the JEF Finland because JEF Finland needs an enthusiastic, progressive and competent person who is good at organisational and administrative development, as well as political advocacy. My own career in the organisation started in 2016 at Tähdistö, after which I have led our local organisation for a couple of years, as well as serving in the board of JEF Finland. For a couple of years I was also editor-in-chief of Tähdistö. For me, JEF Finland has become an organisation where I have learned a lot about politics and administrative work, and made important friendships that I hope will last for the rest of my life. It is this experience of community that I, as President, would like to pass on to everyone.

I have seen many different stages in the development of the EU, as well as in the history of our beloved organisation. But now we are on the brink of something new, as we have to work hand in hand to secure the future and funding of JEF Finland. Success requires vision, ambition and experience. Beyond funding, JEF Finland deserves reforms that will make us a more open, inclusive and safe community where every young person has room to develop and succeed. I see JEF Finland as an organisation that calls for a responsible, humane and sustainable European Union in Finland and internationally.
